THE KALMIOPSIS PRESERVATION PROJECT This page last updated July 26, 2010 Visits presented by The Kalmiopsis Preservation Project Charitable Trust and Chetco River Mining & Explorations, LLC **NEW** This website has changed from its original offering for 1 of 3 remaining mining claims in the Kalmiopsis Wilderness that was offered to be extinguished through donations that would pass to charity. CRME has decided to withdraw this offering and submit applications for mining permits and eventually sale of GOLD 9 and GOLD 10 to two new owners. We gladly will assist the new owners with permitting of these claims for their operations. A mining and timber company named Silver Lake Timber, Inc will be the owner of GOLD 9 and another owner of GOLD 10. CRME will retain Gold 3-8 and Gold 11 for now but likely further diversification will be forthcoming. CRME has recognized it has more than enough mining properties and there is no reason why CRME should hold so many as had been done by previous owners. The KP offering has now moved to the claims GOLD 3-8 which are claims outside the Wilderness. Help preserve the Chetco River by extinguishing the only remaining mining claims soon to be permanantly withdrawn (1872 mining rights).............and help local* charity too!
Your contribution can make a difference to:
The "GOLD
3-8"
mining claims consist of approx. 18 river miles on the
Chetco River, Oregon and is based on the 1872 federal For each $10 contributed, CRME will give up 1 linear foot (x600 ft width) of the mining rights back to the United States Forest Service. This process will continue with donors until the claims no longer exists and is extinguished. If you register your contribution in the form below, you will grant us permission to credit your contribution to an individual or an organization of your choice. At the end of this promotion, the registration log will be counted and the organization or individual responsible for the most contributions will be given the credit of "most distinguished" contributor with a Press Release crediting the accomplishment. Chetco River Mining & Explorations, LLC (CRME), a mining company owns the only mining claims on the Chetco River from the Little Redwood Campground to the Kalmiopsis Wilderness. It plans to either mine them once authorized through the USFS Plan of Operations permitting, or through contributions from conscience citizens extinguish the claims for charitable purposes. The company also owns other claims on the Chetco River. CRME operates suction dredge mining projects, promotes a mining club membership and maintains lease relationships for other suction dredging operators. How is 'preserving' the Chetco River done? Proper coaching; Coaching was provided by the Bureau of Land Management to provide the correct manner and acceptable forms to file an amendment that reduces the size of the claim until they are eliminated or 'extinguished'. The claim will be reduced in length at the rate of $10 per 600 sq. ft. (1 linear foot) and eventually extinguishing the mining claim all together with enough contributions. These forms have been reviewed by an attorney and use original, not reproduction forms. The Mining Claims are incrementally made smaller by its legal description each time an amendment is filed. An amendment will be filed for each 10% of funds collected per claim to reaching the goal. New & larger claims are illegal and invalid in the Wilderness; The Kalmiopsis Wilderness is a federally protected mineral withdrawn land accept for pre-existing mining claims that are valid and filed before the withdrawn status was effective in 1983. The area of the Chetco River outside the wilderness is currently proposed to become mineral withdrawn as well. Amending the claims by making them smaller in size excludes the previous description that is no longer within its boundary of the claims. The amendments will reduce the size as the units are converted until the claims no longer exists. The area no longer within the claims may not be reclaimed because the lands are closed to new mineral locations (claims). Recording new legal description: Filing amended Mining Claim descriptions at both the County and the Bureau of Land Management (Federal) office will be provided according to law. The recording becomes public record to verify authenticity and accountability. These will be posted as a pdf file on this website for viewing. What is the cost and what is preserved? Cost: You may contribute any amount you wish. The conversion rate is $20 per linear river ft. The claims are 600 ft. wide, therefore for each linear foot converted preserves 600 sq. ft and no longer encumbered by 1872 mining rights. How does Charity benefit?
